Quite possibly, Manny was thick, or too in awe of his manager to say anything.
Both excusable in a kid who was paid to play football, not to decide when he played football.
Redknapp and loads of others were paid for that.

I think Graham Mackrell, the Club Secretary, took the fall for that one. Monumental cock up throughout the club though. Player must've known he was cup tied, manager should have known, as should his Assistant and quite probably many other staff.

It has always struck me that Manny got hung out to dry over that. I remember many things about that. Our manager for one saying that he didn't know why he put him on really. That worried me for a start. The other thing no one seems to ever answer is that Gillingham must have asked permission to play him in the cup and the club must have agreed. I assume Redknapp had the final say so it was a huge admin cock up and Redknapp should have shouldered the blame from the kid. It ruined him completely and I thought that was pretty sh!tty from Redknapp. He turned out to be a man for himself though so not really surprising.

That limo trip up to Old Trafford was superb, and I can't thank him enough for the funniest display of attempting to play football I have ever seen, culminating in us walking out when they strolled in their 5th.

B.ferguson1980 1:21 Wed Oct 18 - a bit harsh as Neighbour actually played well for us while he was here. Bobby Barnes is a good shout by Eddie B. but Manny wins it for me though. Through to a cup semi-final Redknapp's Golden Generation might have actually been golden with us rather than Chelsea and ManU but for that still amazing balls-up. To this day I still can't believe that happened.

You say that but then there's Eggy a few minutes later talking about his "shite clearance" rather than putting the ball out. Plenty of West Ham blame him for apparently passing the ball back to Gerrard who then scored.
Who kicks the ball to the oppo goalkeeper when they have the ball just outside their own box? I'm thinking it's no-one ever. There's a player down, players shouting at him and a crowd booing so he stuck the ball out, not expecting the ball would be returned in such a cunty way. Personally I wouldn't have, especially in the last minute of a Cup Final, and nor would other players but unfortunately he did.
Scaloni made two questionable decisions leading up to the goal but people think he provided an assist for it.

Bobby Barnes.
In 1984/85, came on as a late sub at home to Norwich and scored the only goal of the match. We stayed up by 2 points.
If we'd gone down that year, we would never have had the immortal 1986 seson.

In hindsight if you are in your own half and want to kick the ball out kick it not sideways but about 40yds up the sideline.
The Liverpool behaviour was a disgrace but we were naive in expecting them to act honourably.
Hopefully that lesson has been learnt

People aren't on about that bit.
The initial throw in was instigated by Scaloni kicking the ball into touch because a Liverpool player was injured. He pointed to him as he booted the ball out.
They then half heartedly threw the ball back to him as you said.
He should have just booted the ball down the pitch to Reina and let Reina decide what to do about their injured player. Would he have booted it out? Doubt it.
Don't really blame Liverpool for being a bit cunty about the way they threw the ball back to him.
